Benefits
Pilates
“After 10 hours you’ll feel the difference, after 20 you’ll see the difference, and in 30 you’ll have a new body.” Joseph Pilates (1883–1967)
Pilates is amazing for most people. Men and women, teenagers to the silver age, from top athletes to overweight. It is a full body workout with a low risk of injury. Thanks to the mindful and controlled way of exercising, almost every person can begin to practice. The advantage with Pilates is also that you can adapt the workout to the individual needs of the person.
However, there are some groups of people that can profit even more:
- Managers - for more strength and relaxation
- Adults 60+ - helps staying fit in the Golden Years
- Top athletes for injury prevention and athletic improvement
- Moms – after giving birth, to get back into shape
- Artists – the Pilates breathing helps to connect mind, body and soul
- People with an unhealthy posture – to avoid back problems
If you are suffering from back pain or if you have had any injuries, it is important that you let me know about it so that we can adjust the exercises and the program. That is also the advantage of individual small groups. Please see a medical doctor and get the approval for doing Pilates. Then book your group class trial to try it out!
The Pilates Technique
Pilates is an intelligent, full-body workout with a large variety of great exercises. Practicing Pilates never gets boring. Pilates is set apart from other exercise systems by six principles. Whether you are working on the mat or using Pilates equipment, these basic principles infuse every exercise:
- Control
- Concentration
- Centering
- Breathing
- Precision
- Flow of movement
They might sound a bit abstract, but the more you practice Pilates, the more they become second nature.
Energetically, the Pilates exercises are sourced from the center of the body, the powerhouse area between the ribs and the pubic bone. If you bring full attention and control to every movement, you will get the maximum value out of each exercise. The correct breathing was emphasized by Joseph Pilates. You use a full breath to pump the air fully in and out of the body. Then you coordinate the breath with the exercise to make it easier and more fluent. Precision is about being aware of your alignment and the appropriate placement of each part of the body. By practicing the Pilates routine with a gentle flow, you create grace, ease and fluidity – the intention that Joseph Pilates applied to all exercises.
The exercises follow a certain order. This makes it easier for the client to remember the exercises and the sequence.
Barre Benefits
Barre workout can truly transform your body. This is a graceful way to sculpt your muscles and create a long lean physique. It involves a fun choreography with music at a dynamic pace. We exercise at the ballet barre as well as on the mat. You’ll feel sore afterwards, but also energised and strong. What makes Barre special is the tone and the feel of the method. It’s not the typical boot camp, but more feminine and graceful. I have put together a dynamic formula with interval training where your muscles are targeted and overloaded to the point of fatigue, then we add stretching for relief.
